About Me

Welcome to Dishas Chai, and thank you for visiting our site. I'm Baldish aka Disha, the woman behind the brand. As a one-woman band, I ventured into the chai business with a deep passion for tea, particularly Indian tea or as we fondly call it in our Punjabi home, "Cha da cup."

Chai holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of my childhood. Every Indian household has its unique masala blend, passed down through generations. I can still vividly recall the delight of my mother bringing us Chai in bed, especially on Sundays. It was a true treat and a tradition that created beautiful memories. Drinking Chai today brings me that same comforting feeling—a warm hug in a mug. When I visit my mum now, I insist on making Chai using my blend (no tea bags allowed!). I think she considers me a bit of a Chai snob.

Over the years, I perfected my blend with the guidance of my mother-in-law. She was a master experimenter, adding spices like nutmeg, fennel seeds, black cardamom, or star anise, depending on her mood. These aromatic spices give Chai an Ayurvedic touch. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian medical system, follows a natural and holistic approach to physical and mental health. For example, to soothe an upset stomach, my mother-in-law would brew Chai with more fennel and ajwain (carom or caraway) seeds.

We both agreed that the classic masala chai blend, with cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper, and fresh ginger whenever possible, offered the best balance and daily goodness.

Although technology has advanced, we are yet to experience smells and aromas digitally. To truly appreciate the goodness of our spices, you need to smell our Chai blend in person.

Chai is deeply ingrained in our culture. Whenever you visit friends or family, you will always be welcomed with an invitation for a "cha da cup." Nowadays, Chai is enjoyed across the globe. In India, you'll find Chaiwallahs (often men) by the street side, skillfully preparing Chai and serving it in traditional clay or glass cups.

The best way to enjoy Chai is by brewing and serving it in the traditional way—with milk and sugar (although I don't include sugar in mine). It can be enjoyed with any milk of your choice, including non-dairy alternatives. Oat milk pairs particularly well, enhancing the taste and experience.

For me, taking a moment from our busy lives, whether alone or with loved ones, is pure bliss. Some of the most meaningful conversations happen while sharing Chai with my favorite people.

Chai is a staple beverage that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. I personally start each morning with Chai, as it sets me up for the day ahead. To make it more convenient for you, I have pre-blended all the spices with Assam tea, known for its bold and malty flavor. Now, you can easily enjoy the comfort of authentic Chai in the convenience of your own home.

Thank you for joining me on this Chai-filled journey. Together, let's savor the moments and indulge in the richness and warmth of Dishas Chai.
